Do You Know How to Choose Batting Helmets?
By Rick Grantham

Once upon a time baseball was a game of wooden bats and grass stained jeans on a carefree summer afternoon. However, today the bats are high-tech, almost like metal weapons and the players seem to be ready for battle instead of a game. Of course safety is the number one concern for all sports and baseball is no different. First and foremost you should be aware of the NOCSAE (National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment) as they have been a driving force in an effort to improve athletic equipment and reduce injuries. How to choose batting helmets is only a small portion of their guidelines.

When you learn how to choose batting helmets you will realize that paying for top of the line baseball helmets are worth every single cent that is spent on them. This is an even more important when you are talking about regular baseball (fast pitch). Keep in mind that polyethylene type shells (as well as a strong polycarbonate) are guaranteed to resist an impact even from a line drive or even fastballs. However, baseball helmet manufacturers do deny responsibility for an injury that was caused by using the equipment improperly, which is something that happens all too frequently.

The reason that these injuries occur, most often with youngsters it is because they feel their helmets are uncomfortable or clumsy. Knowing how to choose batting helmets is vital to the player’s safety. When a helmet does not fit well there is a chance that the players view may become obstructed and this may result in a player not being able to see quickly enough and is not able to get out of the way if, for example, the ball gets away from the pitcher or even the catcher. This is something that can happen in any league all the way from little league up to the pros, there is no boundary when talking about wild pitches or throws.

How to choose batting helmets is a top priority for everyone’s safety. There are some areas of well-built batting helmets that you should always be aware of and one of those must-haves is a padded (with foam) interior that acts like a shield of the head, keeping it away from the outer shell. Another important feature is to be sure there is some type of rear adjustable strap that will help the helmet fit looser or tighter (whichever is needed). They are not on the older model helmets much but they have been known to crop among the newer ones.

Knowing how to choose batting helmets involves another important feature which is to make sure that the helmet has some type of ventilation at the ear holes or on the top, actually having it in both places works best. This actually helps get kids used to keeping their helmets on. Not just when they are batting but also if they are on deck or even on a base.

And finally, when learning how to choose batting helmets it is advisable to get one that also has a chinstrap. Obviously this is to help keep the helmet on the head instead of flying off after some type of impact, which of course then lessens the chance of an injury.

Clothing For Baseball Training
By Chris Moheno

As for any sport, apart from baseball training and baseball drills, sports clothing has reflected the morals, standards, fashions and dress codes of the society or group playing the sport. More often than not throughout history, the acceptable standard of cover was more important than the functionality, freedom of movement or safety requirements of the individual sportsman or woman. Sports clothing was everyday clothing that was worn while playing the sport, it was not specialty apparel, as we know it today. We have all seen the pictures of women in long skirts and men in long trousers, shirts and ties playing tennis, to name just one example. Baseball training was not immune from this fashion versus functionality ethos; the first baseball uniforms required the players to wear ties (usually bow ties), and originally the players wore long trousers with baggy legs.

As sports became more than just a “gentile pastime” and players themselves began to be more competitive, the clothing they wore during baseball drills also began to evolve. Take for example the long trousers originally worn in baseball; the players themselves began to wrap these trousers tightly to their legs and either tape them or use a small belt to keep them tightly fastened to their legs to stop their feet becoming entangled in the trousers while they were running. In the early years of baseball, players also did not wear gloves, and the first gloves were just leather work-gloves, not the mitts we know today.

Modern sports clothing has evolved to not only allow a player to have the maximum athletic freedom of movement, but also to allow the player extra protection and safety specific to their individual sports. Another aspect of the clothing that should not be overlooked is its durability. Modern baseball clothing is designed to withstand the rigors associated with baseball training, and the repetition of baseball drills such as repeated sliding practice, etc.

Baseball clothing has evolved markedly over the history of the game. It is now clothing that is expressly designed and engineered to suit the rigors of the game and allow the player the comfort and protection necessary to reach their full potential. Modern players now wear helmets to protect themselves from potential head injuries while batting, mitts or gloves are designed specifically to a players position or role on the field catching, 1st base and fielding all have specific gloves. Baseball cleats have seen as much technical advancement as any specialist athletic shoe, to provide grip but also to protect a players feet from the stresses associated with this game specifically. You can now also get baseball specific underwear; shorts with padding built into the thighs to offer more protection to a player when sliding into base.

When considering which of the numerous brands and types of baseball clothing to purchase, the important things to look for when making your final decision are first the quality of both the materials used and the stitching of the garments as activities such as sliding to base, or diving to catch a ball will quickly induce failure in inferior materials. You also want your clothing or uniform to last more than a single baseball training session. Second, the durability, will it survive numerous baseball drills? For example, many cleats have an extra layer of protection over the toe area for extended life.

Old Baseball Jerseys – Collecting Baseball Memorabilia
By Cassaundra Flores

Love of baseball does not only mean that you watch the game live. There are many ways to show that you really value baseball. One effective way to show that you support your favorite team is by collecting baseball memorabilia particularly old baseball jerseys.

There are many MLB memorabilia that you can choose from. You can either choose from bats, caps, jerseys and other items that carry the logo of your favorite baseball team. But among the many collectibles in baseball, old baseball jerseys are the most common collection of baseball memorabilia.

But how can actually buy an old baseball jersey? And if you try to resell it, how can you sell it in a higher price? You can buy the jerseys in local retail stores that sell baseball merchandises. Prices differ accordingly depending on the history and story that surrounds the team and the player of the jersey.

There are also online sites that also sells baseball merchandises but make sure that these online sites is a trustworthy one as there are sites that might not accept return merchandise.

But aside from retail and online stores, the best way to buy the jerseys are from memorabilia auctions being offered by baseball teams to support local charities. The auctions usually offer the jerseys and other baseball merchandise. This is a great way of helping your local charity while enjoying baseball memorabilia.

To increase the value of your memorabilia, wait for announcement from your favorite team when is the scheduled autograph sessions. Autograph signing session is very important, as signatures from your favorite player who wore the jersey will increase the value of the jersey. You may also ask the player to sign your other memorabilia to increase the value of your collection.

Other ways to collect jerseys is to contact other collectors in your area. Other collectors may have them pre-owned by baseball legends in the past. These pre-owned items from other collectors may be more expensive but will be a good one for your collection and may also prove to be an investment as you can re-sell it to a higher price.

Aside from purchasing them, you may also set a get together party with other collectors, this will give you the chance to share or trade stories from other baseball collectors.Always remember that the old baseball jerseys are not just a piece of cloth, each one has memorable stories to tell so it is important that you know the stories behind the player who wore them.

Research also about the history of the baseball team, their championship titles and great accomplishments as learning all the stories behind the jersey will add more glitter and value to your collection. In the end, collecting baseball memorabilia is really great especially if you decide to collect jerseys but make sure that all collectibles that you are buying are real and genuine as more and more fake items are proliferating in the net.

Baseball Memorabilia – Support Your Team And Add To Your Collection
By Cassaundra Flores

Baseball memorabilia is for those fans who are passionate about baseball and enjoy collecting items that reflect this love of theirs. If one were to spend time searching the Internet, they would find that most of the baseball memorabilia is available right here and at a cheaper price. The price quoted by the sites will be a tad lesser than what we see in stores. The one catch is there is no way we can be sure of the authenticity of the memorabilia on the net. Whereas in a store, we can inspect the product and comfort ourselves that it is indeed genuine. An autographed bat or ball would be worth a lot for a person who is crazy about this sport. It is not in terms of money, but just the sheer fact that he owns the piece would make a difference. Some would like to purchase memorabilia from a game they had recently been to, so they can have something that reminds them of that evening or the match.

There are some stores and sites that specialize in dealing with antique products, and here one might find Babe Ruth autographed ball or bat. Of a jersey that was worn by a leading player at a final match. All this would add excitement to the fan’s life and make them popular among their colleagues or friends. The baseball championships and youth baseball matches are very popular in America since this sport is considered the national sport. And so any memorabilia made with the logo or a player’s picture in them is bound to sell like hot cakes. It is up to the fan to not waste time and rush to buy whatever he fancies else he will have to wait for fresh stocks to arrive by which time a lot can change.

Be it a baseball bat or a framed picture or a towel used during the game, everything is made available on the site. There are some memorabilia that were part of the very first season of baseball, this goes to show the amount of the interest the people who’ve created this site have on the sport. They also provide information about the product and so one is reassured of its value. A picture of the Boston red Sox player Curt Shilling or his autograph on a ball would be the perfect gift of baseball memorabilia . Imagine being able to hold a ball that was played by Babe Ruth, the biggest baseball legend ever or holding a bat autographed by Mickey Mantle. Would it be like a dream come true? It would be a moment to cherish when you receive the parcel you have been eagerly waiting for. Or if you were once a baseball player, then possessing any baseball memorabilia would be like holding a piece of your past and reconnecting with the same. A game that is a big part of every Americans life would become more precious if they were to hold one of these.

Baseball Memorabilia – Truly Priceless
By Cassaundra Flores

Like how Chopsticks is to China, Baseball is to any die hard sports fan and memorabilia baseball cards are what they cherish the most. Baseball is much more than a sport. It’s almost a religion and Baseball memorabilia, Baseball cards, hats, jerseys, bats, baseballs and any other item that a player might have swiped his pen across, that might have been hit and dropped and stained and might smell of a million sweaty hands are bought and collected by Baseballs Fans and Fanatics alike, even when they are auctioned for prices high up in the thousands.

Baseball memorabilia is sometimes even bought with money begged, borrowed and dare I say, stolen. And if that’s not enough memorabilia baseball cards are often stolen along with jewels and money from many houses. The burglars are not baseball fanatics; but its just that the resale cost of these this is sometimes more than that of jewelery. The rarity of many a baseball card increases its value. Life even got easier for sports channels, as prizes Baseball cards and Hats from games that no fan would have missed are given.

Otherwise private deals with owners of autographed property, Public Auctions and Online bidding are how these memorabilia are acquired by anyone. Some more memorabilia are Gloves, Mitts, Helmets, Posters, Signs, Plates, Pins, Buttons, Toys, Cheering Gear, Bobble heads, Figurines, Tapes of Vintage games, sports patches, magazine covers, matchbooks, Shoes etc- you name it, it’s collectible. And these remain more popular than Jerseys of these teams custom made with the buyer’s name on it. But that’s not the only kind of memorabilia, a specific game where the team, which the fans rooted for won, clothes they were wearing that day, the ticket to that game, the Packet of peanuts they ate will all be treasured as more personal memorabilia.

Memorabilia from the early 1950′s till the yesterday’s game are available, any little thing you are looking for can be found if you know where to look and if you are prepared for the amount its going to cost you. Players themselves do not benefit in anyway from this memorabilia. It is to do with the team and sponsoring company making extra money. Most fan clubs of players or teams will have some memorabilia amongst members or will have common ownership of certain things.

In fact an average Baseball fan tends to leave his baseball cards to a son or daughter in his will. It’s amazing how a little piece of paper or a worn out bat can mean so much to someone. Memorabilia baseball cards give the players an eternity, they never die. Memorabilia baseball cards availability may be in question but its authenticity and the love for the sport and the way the fans want to remember every game and every player is truly something. And this is probably the best way to give the teams, All of them, and the players and substitutes, and the coaches they’re due respect and place in history.

Baseball Memorabilia – Bats And Balls, Maketh A Difference
By Cassaundra Flores

Baseball memorabilia belongs to the sport that is played by every single person in the United States of America. Baseball, the game where there are a striker and a pitcher and is played on a unique shaped pitch is the national sport of America and there are many teams that are world champions in this. Just like how cricket souvenirs are famous in most of the world, baseball memorabilia is popular here. Also the collection of Baseball memorabilia includes everything from an autographed ball to a cap worn by a famous player.

There are TV channels dedicated to this sport and people flock the stadiums to watch a baseball match between their favorite teams. Recently, there has been a spurt in the sales of the Baseball memorabilia because there are a couple of new websites which have come up where they sell baseball related objects and items. There are autographed helmets, T shirts, shoes worn by players during a major game and some other products for sale. And people don’t hesitate to spend thousands of dollars to get their hands on one of these. This makes them the proud owners and they get to boast to all their friends and family that they own a piece of history at home.

A Derek Jeter jersey or the bat he used to play with are all cherished items that will go for high prices. Similarly, there are a few pictures of Babe Ruth still available on some websites waiting to be snatched away by a baseball fan. All this goes to show the kind of passion and craze people have towards sports, especially baseball. If one were to scrounge on the net, am sure they would find a hat or a jacket worn by a famous player back in the 1900s up for sale. And some sites while trying to lure people into buying these memorabilia have slashed prices and offer them at a discounted rate. This reflects on the personality of all these people and how much in love with the sport they are. There are also a multitude of photos and photo frames available which are said to belong to players of yesteryears. And there will be thousands of fans waiting in line to make it theirs. Such is the world of sports today where men are said to be more into them than women, atleast sports like football and baseball.

The baseball memorabilia in a person’s house would be priceless, and he would make sure no one touches it or damages it. And some might go to an extent of insuring the same against robbery as they are more valuable than any piece of jewellery. Baseball memorabilia are collected by people from a very young age, right from baseball cards they begin developing their passion towards the sport and as they grow older it grows stronger and stronger. As long as one doesn’t get addicted and over protective of their possessions, there will be a good balance at home.

Baseball Memorabilia and Sports Collectibles
By Kevin Fairbanks

When you think of baseball memorabilia and sports collectibles, do you think of baseball cards or do you think of the signed jerseys, the throwback jerseys, jackets, hats, helmets, the pictures, and hero posters? Well, there are many ways to show your support by collecting items of your favorite team or player.

People collect for other sports as well, such as baseball, NASCAR, basketball, football, golf. Some items that are found to be fun to collect are die cast models, Bobble Heads, Hero Posters and the newest items are The Fat Heads items. These are life-like, life-sized replicas of sports heroes that can be safely stuck to your wall. With all of the things you can collect, it is no wonder that some are confused as to where to start or how to start collecting sports memorabilia and sports collectibles. Collecting any sports memorabilia or sports collectibles is a very personal hobby that has value based more on the individuals likes and passions as much as the success of the individual player or team.

For those of us who want to buy that special someone something unique related to their favorite NASCAR driver, basketball, baseball, football or golf player, team, or sport, what do you look for? If they are into baseball memorabilia, you might want to consider the St Louis Cardinals. They not only won the World Series in 2006 but they also have some of the all time greats like Alber Pujols, Scott Rolen, and Yadier Molina. On the other hand, maybe they are into NASCAR. Then you have Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, and the reigning champion Jimmy Johnson. Maybe your sports fanatic is a woman. Well, she may like Danica Patrick who has taken Indy Racing Leagues by storm. We cannot forget the late and great Dale Earnhardt Sr. whose collectibles have not only doubled but tripled since his death and seem to be growing in value even more each year. As with many great painters like Picasso, Earnhardt fans refuse to allow his dream and legacy to die.

When it comes to NASCAR, you might want to not only look into the cars, but Plush Bears designed after the driver, year books and autobiographies, key chains and lighters, plates, glasses, clocks and more for your home. You will even find out that baseball memorabilia and sports collectibles have spread into the Christmas decorations with entire villages and decorations for the tree to the roof of your sports fan’s home.

However, there are other great sports stars as well, including sports greats like Ben Roethlisberger, Shaquille O’Neil, and Nomar Garciaparra. Moreover, let us not forget the ever-resounding Michael Jordan. When throwback jerseys were mentioned, you may or may not have realized how much these have influenced sports memorabilia, but in 1980, when the NBA, MLB, and NFL began selling both new and the ones used in games, it pushed the collectors to wanting even more.

The die cast scene has changed as well. Fire trucks were a hot item at one time, but they have revolved back to the older muscle cars and the newer hotrod collectibles. Then we have the over all baseball memorabilia and sports collectors who grab anything from a picture of Tiger Woods to Los Angeles Lakers for basketball, or the Indianapolis Colts, the NFL Super Bowl Champions. Even the seven-time champion of the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong, has a strong following for memorabilia and sports collectibles.

When it comes to the value of the items you collect, remember that the more famous the star, the more expensive the baseball memorabilia and sports collectible items will be. If the item can be verified as authentic in some way, that really adds to the value. Make sure you keep any items related to your sports collectible or sports memorabilia. These would include the original box, any correspondence or signatures, receipts, etc. These will all help to make the item more valuable and collectible.

Collecting Sports Memorabilia as a Hobby and as an Investment
By L Obando

Collecting sports memorabilia is a hobby that can fill your spare time with importance and give you a distraction to everyday life. Most collectors of today started out collecting baseball cards of their favorite players as a child. Whether it was vintage cards like a Ted Williams Play Ball Rookie or Joe Dimaggio Goudey Rookie card or a 1951 Bowman or 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle Rookie card or today’s rookies like Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr. or Albert Pujols, If you collected cards as a child chances are you have moved onto collecting bigger pieces or memorabilia. Collectors that collect sports memorabilia as a hobby see their memorabilia as having a sentimental value; they might look at it as a childhood memory, or as an important moment of life shared with his or her favorite star or team. What you decide to collect is a matter of personal preference.

Some people collect items from a broad range of different sports while others only collect items that pertain to a particular sport or a particular athlete. The sports memorabilia you collect makes a statement about you as a collector. Every sports collectible you have acquired over time tells a story and signifies an important moment in sports history. Some collectors choose to focus on a broader collection from an entire team within their sport of interest for example; Baseball memorabilia of the New York Yankees, Basketball memorabilia of the Detroit Pistons, or Football memorabilia of the Indianapolis Colts. Other collectors may prefer to keep a more general collection, acquiring any or all memorabilia, Die cast collectibles, Bobble Heads, or sports art from their sport of choice. Some collectors choose to collect items from a specific era of a sport or team “vintage” items.

Then there are collectors who fancy a specific player or players within a specific sport or sports and enjoy collecting items only related to that player or players. Since collecting depends on the interests of the individual collector, it may deal with almost any subject including sports collectible & sports memorabilia. The depth and of the collection may also vary. There are numerous items a collector can collect anywhere from autographed baseballs of their favorite player or team to more unique and rare items like games used equipment ( gloves bats jerseys even cleats ) to limited edition pieces like bobble heads and figurines, Perez – Steele Postcards and autographed sports art.

Collecting Sports Memorabilia as an Investment

While most sports memorabilia collectors collect as hobby, or just for the love of the sport or athlete that they admire. Some sports memorabilia collectors take it a step further, and choose carefully the sports memorabilia they acquire as a sound investment that will increase in value year after year. The more significant the item being signed the greater value that item will hold for years to come.

By acquiring unique, rare, or vintage sports memorabilia not only do you make a sound investment for the future and you will find that it is much more fun to collect the type of sports memorabilia that others do not have, while at the same time investing in your future. While the market is flooded with items like 8×10 photos or baseballs with just a signature of many of today’s players, a more unique or rare item will always hold a greater value for example, there are numerous Albert Pujols autographed baseballs found all over the internet which hold a book value of $175.00, but if you find one that has an inscription such as “2001 NL ROY” for his 2001 rookie of the year season or his “03 Batting Champ” for the national league batting title he won in 2003 or “2005 MVP” then your investment will at least double or even triple right off the bat so you will have acquired a valuable piece of sports memorabilia that will increase greatly in value over time as his amazing career progresses. So you see, collecting sports memorabilia is not only a fun hobby to have, but a wise investment as well.

Guide to Babe Ruth’s Baseball Memorabilia
By Joseph Baylon

Baseball is the number one sport that has captured the hearts of Americans, both young and old. That is the reason why baseball memorabilia is also popular and in-demand in the country. Nearly all the things that baseball athletes use in and out of the field have fetched a considerable amount of money, especially those that have been used by baseball legends like Baseball Hall of Famer Babe Ruth.

For many baseball fanatics, money is not an issue. They are willing to pay a huge amount of money for rare mementos and collectibles like bats, signed pictures and baseballs. Most of their collections are also well guarded and increase in value through time.

Top collectors seek after baseball memorabilia left by Babe Ruth because the man is a legend. Anywhere he was placed, he consistently showed his baseball prowess, both as a pitcher and batter. He made and broke his own homerun and other records several times during the span of his long baseball career. This bambino is considered one of the best, if not the best, baseball player of all time.

Babe Ruth’s Rare Baseball Memorabilia

The most expensive baseball bat sold in an auction in the history of the country was the one that Babe Ruth used to score a homerun in the first-ever game played in the Yankee Stadium in New York. The old wooden bat, which was remarkably preserved, was bought by an anonymous collector on December 2, 2006 for almost $1.3 million, approximately half the money spent in building the said Yankee Stadium. According to the representative of the buyer, their party was willing to spend more than $1.3m for the said bat.

Another baseball memento that fetched quite high selling price is an autographed bat that Babe Ruth used in one of his games. This particular bat was acquired in an auction for around $216,000. Antique autographed bats are very expensive because they are very rare. Since bats used before were wooden bats, they were easy to break and smash. Thus, only a number of used wooden bats of popular players are preserved nowadays.

Signed baseball memorabilia are abundant in the market. You can find autographed baseball caps, bats, balls, jersey and many others on the Internet and other auction sites. However, it is more difficult to encounter genuine signed checks, contracts, documents and letters. Signed pictures are also rare. These items will surely increase in value in the future, especially if you are talking about baseball memorabilia of the legendary Babe Ruth.

Affordable Babe Ruth baseball memorabilia

If you are just interested in baseball collectibles but are not really concerned too much on amassing money in the process, then you can opt to collect inexpensive baseball mementos, such as photos, pins, trading cards and framed copy of the Curse of Bambino contract. You will not find it very difficult to find these reasonably priced baseball souvenirs in sports hobby shops and the Internet. There are hundreds of web-based auction houses that you can chose from.

Be wary of fake baseball memorabilia

Since the demand for baseball memorabilia, especially from Babe Ruth, is very high but the supply is very low, many unscrupulous individuals are preying on the inexperienced collectors. In order to prevent being conned, you ought to buy from legitimate dealers, especially if a huge amount of money is at stake. For autographs and signed documents, you should also contract the services of experts to authenticate your baseball memorabilia.

——————————————————————-

Autographed sports memorabilia collecting either vintage or modern, comes down to a few factors which are amount of money available and amount of space available.

The preference of a collector may be Baseball Collectible Memorabilia, Basketball Memorabilia, Football Memorabilia, Golf Memorabilia, or NASCAR memorabilia. No matter what sport you follow, the hunt of a desired piece from a particular athlete to ad to a collection is a challenge that is like no other.

Sports Memorabilia Collecting depends on the individual and it may deal with almost anything sports. Some Sports collectors choose to focus on a specific topic in their area of interest – example Baseball memorabilia of the Boston Red Sox, Football Collectible memorabilia of the 49ers, or anything Tiger Woods. Others Sports Memorabilia Collectors prefer a more general approach, obtaining any or all Baseball collectibles, Football memorabilia, Golf memorabilia, NASCAR collectibles or NBA Basketball memorabilia.

Sports Collectibles can take the form of a single item such as an autographed football or baseball. Memorabilia can also be a series of items, such as signature from each member of a baseball, basketball, or football team. Signed football programs from each New Year.

The value of a sports collectible memorabilia item is dependant upon the popularity of the sports athlete and how rare the signature is to get. The harder the item is to get the more demand the item which in return the higher the value. Example of this is an athlete that only honors a given number of autographs do to contracts and other factors keeping items high in cost and value.

Autographed Sports Memorabilia Collecting is a great hobby for young and old. It has no age restrictions and has over the years also become a huge business.
